By the same token (that you are likely to draw a 10 – or higher), always split Aces and 8s (and never split 4s). This way you’ll end up with 18 and 21. Both of these are very difficult for the dealer to beat. Other splitting decisions depend on what the dealer is showing.
Surrendering is only recommended when you have a hard 16 and the dealer is showing a 9, 10 or Ace. OR when you have a hard 15 and the dealer is showing a 10.
