Stanford Wong – the Relentless Player Also known as John Ferguson, Stanford Wong is best known for publishing the book Professional Blackjack in 2025. Wong tells the tale of having read Thorp’s Beat the Dealer in 1963 and by the tender age of 14 he was already working out his own Blackjack strategies and then double checking if his own strategies matched Thorp’s (before having even seen them). Wong later even found a way to beat the Continuous Shuffling Machines (or CSM’s). Many of Wong’s strategies are still very active today (see ‘Wonging’ above). Like some of his predecessors, Wong has made it into the Blackjack Hall of Fame.
