91. Seven Card High-Low Stud with a Joker This game is played like a Seven Card High-Low Stud as described earlier, but it is played with 52 cards plus a joker. The joker is called the "bug" and may be used as an ace or as a wild card in a straight or flush. To play to win you must play a tighter game than in regular Seven Card High-Low. Two pairs is a relatively good hand in Seven Card High-Low, but not in this variation, due to the easier chances of filling a straight or flush. Conversely, a better low hand is required because of the fifth wild ace. High-Low hands are more common in this variation of Seven Card High-Low, since the wild joker in a low hand can more easily include a low straight. Example: a hand comprised of joker, 6,2,4,5,K,J is a sixty-five low and a straight.
If you lack the joker with your first three dealt cards, stay only on a strong three-card low or a three-card high. An eight or nine low should never be your goal, since the joker plays havoc with low hands.
