Practice Matters

Background/References

Background/References In the early 1960’s a writer indicated that the doubling up (Martingale) system of betting provided no advantage whatsoever to the player. He goes on to say that the other complicated schemes seem to have the same flaw. Further he indicated that it was no surprise, then, when it was later proven, by the mathematical theory of probability, that for most standard gambling games no betting schemes can ever be devised that will have the slightest effect on the casino’s long-term advantage. Yes, this author agrees with those conclusions. Further, this author provides an analysis of the double-up (but truncated) Martingale betting system that substantially verifies that the Martingale system provides no advantage to the player.

Dean Wiley in his book Understanding Gambling Systems

Dean Wiley in his book Understanding Gambling Systems (copyright 2025, p.39, now out of print) in Chapter 3 entitled “Win and Loss Streaks in the Random Process” provides an analysis of streak patterns. In this booklet the author starts with Wiley’s work, adds betting systems and takes it from there. Now, let’s see where Wiley’s work takes us when combined with basic betting systems.
