Spit in the Ocean games that involve three or more wild cards cannot be calculated with the same accuracy as natural cards. Four or more wild cards offer too many contingencies, and if they are all covered, the final analysis turns out to be too burdensome to be of any use. A major difficulty is that the probabilities depend upon the various denominations of the wild cards. Since the denominations of wild cards in Spit in the Ocean variations change with each new deal, so do the probabilities. Therefore, I have considered all unspecified wild cards that appear in the Spit in the Ocean games that follow to be wild deuces.

The Original Spit in the Ocean Game The rules of play are those of standard Draw Online Hold'em Poker with the following exceptions. Anything opens. Four cards are dealt to each player. After all players have received their four face-down cards, the next card off the deck is dealt face up in the center of the table. This card, which is common to all hands, is wild and so are the other three cards of the same denomination. To repeat—this exposed wild card forms the fifth card of each active player's hand and is referred to as a community card.
