This game is often played with the option of turning up the hole card and taking the last dealt card face down (as a hole card). This style game has several added strategic features. Example: A player with four fair low cards will often do this, for it gives him an opportunity to win the pot by a bluff if his fifth dealt card has wrecked his hand.
A player holding three low upcards showing, who takes his last dealt card face up, may be presumed to be holding a high hole card or a pair. No doubt a good player varies such strategic plays from time to time in order to befuddle his opponents.
