The rank of final hands is slightly lower in this English Stud variation than those found in Seven Card Stud High, merely because the two discards and draws make it considerably more difficult to improve the first five dealt cards. In this game the average winning hands are a low three of a kind, such as three fives or lower, or a high two pairs. There are fewer flushes and straights made than in regular Seven Card Stud.

Good plays in this English Stud game on the first three dealt cards (two hole cards and the third card face up) are roughly as follows: Any three cards in sequence are good, as a jack-ten-nine, or any three cards of the same suit; any high pair, eights or better; any pair in the hole; and ace-king in the hole, provided that opponents' face-up cards do not reveal one or more aces or kings.
