If he keeps staring at the board
If he keeps staring at the board he probably doesn't like the Ace anymore than you do. Bet out and see what he does. If he calls, it may only be a crying call with a pocket pair or he may be on a draw.
If you are in position
If you are in position you may consider checking behind him. This does not necessarily represent weakness. Players will often check monsters, trying to trap. A check may send a stronger signal than betting.
