Or, even worse, you limp in and after someone raises, you call, anyway, because you don't want to just give up on the $2 that you have already put into the pot. Now you might be in for $10 instead of just $2, in hopes of getting lucky and flopping a big hand.

There are times when playing rags is a good play. If both you and your opponent are very deep stacked and you feel that if you can catch a big hand against him that he will pay you off, then it could be a good play.
