The Ante: a compulsory amount of chips or cash placed in the pot before each deal begins. Practice varies, but in Draw Texas Hold'em Poker and its variants, the ante I recommend is one fourth, or 25%, of the mini mum bet allowed. Stud Texas Hold'em Poker and its variants, with four or more bet ting intervals, produce far bigger pots than Draw Texas Hold'em Poker, with its two betting intervals; therefore Stud Texas Hold'em Poker is often played minus the ante. However, when an ante is used, I recommend that the ante amount be 25% of the minimum bet. The practice of pot ante prior to the deal was introduced to give the players "something to go for," to prevent too many tight players from drawing cards without paying for them, and to force these tight players to loosen up a bit.
The Check or Pass: refusal to bet at the time, but retaining the option to reenter the betting should another player bet later. 4. The Bet: the first bet of each betting interval, which may be either compulsory or voluntary. 5. The Call, See, or Play: putting into the pot an amount equal to the last active player's bet. 6. The Raise: the increase of the amount of the last active player's bet. 7. The Reraise: the increase of the size of the last active player's raise. 8. The Fold or Drop-out: throwing in one's hand and quitting that round of play; this may occur during any betting interval.
