The tactics of betting and raising in Seven Card Stud are almost the same as in Five Card Stud. The only difference is that the players can seldom be certain of holding the winning hand because, with three face-down cards at the end, the possible five-card Texas Hold'em Poker hands that can be made with the three face-down cards and the four face-up cards total the gigantic number of 133,784,560 as compared to the 2,598,960 in Five Card Stud.
One of the most common mistakes made by the average player in Seven Card Stud is that when he believes he has the best hand, he tries to build up the pot by letting his opponents remain in the pot rather than by attempting to get his opponents to fold (drop out of the pot). The above reasoning holds true only when the player holds an exceptionally strong hand.
