In other words, you may have 9 outs to make your flush, but some of these out may give your opponent a hull house. Or you may have 8 outs to make a straight, but two of these outs may give your opponent a flush. This is one reason why payers need to be very careful when calling bets with just a draw.
I gave several examples of how probabilities can be calculated in common online holdem poker situations. These probabilities can also be quickly, estimated, by an easy method that I call the 2% method. In most cases, this will give you a good estimation but not an exact probability because the exact number of unknown cards is not used. In this method, the number of unknown cards is simplified to be always 50. This way every out can be calculated to be 1 / 50 or 2%. To use this 2% method, simply multiply the number of outs by 2%.
