House Dealer, Shuffle, Cut, Burnt Cards, and Buck or Button. As in Nevada Texas Hold'em Poker rooms, Scarne's club rules do not permit a player to shuffle, cut or deal the cards. The house dealer does all. He collects the played hands, shuffles, cuts and deals the game. Under no circum stances is a player permitted to cut the deck. This ruling eliminates the possibility of a card-cheat player doing his crooked business on the cut. Furthermore, after each betting interval has been completed and before the next round of cards is dealt, the house dealer burns the top card of the deck by dealing it face down onto the table in front of himself.
At the beginning of the game and before the first round of play is dealt, the dealer places a buck or button (a chip marked "button") in front of the player to his left to identify the first imaginary dealer. Thereafter the buck or button is moved by the dealer around from player to player in clockwise sequence to keep track of the next imaginary dealer.
